SCORE - Self-Contained Optional Resource Environment
ID/ CD Classroom
Program Structure
The SCORE program is a cross-categorical educational program designed to provide individualized instruction in a supportive learning environment. Each classroom is staffed by one teacher and one paraprofessional, with a maximum of 12 students to ensure personalized attention and meaningful learning opportunities.
Programming is currently available for students in grades 3 through high school and is provided in two separate classrooms to meet the developmental and educational needs of different age groups.
Students We Serve
The SCORE program is designed for students with moderate educational needs whose intellectual functioning falls within the intellectually delayed range and who have not experienced success in a full-time general education setting with only limited resource room support. Students may also demonstrate adaptive behavior deficits and benefit from a learning environment that provides direct instruction in small groups while offering opportunities for inclusion in selected general education courses.
Instruction is aligned with the Ohio Academic Learning Standards - Extended and includes appropriate accommodations and modifications to support student success. The program also serves students who require adult prompting as they develop greater independence in academic, daily living, and life skills.
Specialized Programming
SCORE provides direct instruction in core academic subjects and individualized IEP goals through small-group and one-on-one instruction aligned with the Ohio Academic Learning Standards - Extended. Students participate in non-academic courses alongside same-age peers and may be included in general education academic classes when appropriate, with limited adult support.
The program integrates vocational experiences, work readiness, and essential "soft skills" into daily instruction. Students also receive direct teaching in social skills and adaptive behaviors, helping them build confidence and independence in school and beyond.
To support successful transitions into adulthood, students receive guidance in identifying their interests, strengths, and career preferences through resources such as OhioMeansJobs. SCORE staff collaborate with an expended IEP team to assist students who may be appropriate for transition to Penta Career Center. Related services are included as an integral component of the program to ensure students receive comprehensive support.
